Native Peoples’ Day Flotilla

Thursday, 10/7 and Friday 10/8

Two groups 

a:departing Friday morning, 

b:departing Saturday morning

Overnight Anchorage and/or raft-up behind Liberty State Park

Location: North by nor’western flank of statue, equidistant between Ellis and Liberty islands. 12-20 ft, dark mud, good holding, some abandoned tackle to be wary about.

Dinghy and/or transient dockage at Liberty Landing/Harbor marina, Honorable Wall, Marina Restaurants, Jersey City Breweries/Restaurants/Ferry and Path Train service for guests, boarding, and gas docks.

Friday, 10/8 group a:

Morning Flood current reverses north at 8am

Follow current up river to Ossining or Croton on Hudson

First night best at Ossining: Westerly Marina/Shattamuc Yacht Club (easy restaurants/metro north is just steps away

or Croton: (better second day, Beautiful Half Moon Bay Cove for anchorage and raft-up

Half Moon Bay Marina for dockage

Pot-luck, or dinner at restaurants depending, 20 min walk to train/restaurant, excellent parking.

Friday group b: Repeat of group a’s itinerary and staging in upper NYC Harbor for Saturday morning transit up river, same timing.

Saturday 10-9

group b: Charges up river on morning current to join group a for evening pot-luck, raft up, dockside dinner, probably Half Moon Bay

Friday/Saturday activities: HAY RIDE to Haunted House, Croton Dam, Hiking, Rainbow Regatta on Haverstraw Bay, Ferry to Haverstraw, Swimming, awaiting rest of fleet, dinner for 25 at 3 Westerly, etc!

If continuing (only if no b group): Sail or Stay! Bear Mountain/Fort Clinton use Anchorage, West Point, Newburgh, Beacon, or Chelsea YC

Flood current reverses north at 10am - 4:30pm

Sunday Enjoy areas north, near West Point, Explore Newburgh, Beacon, Cold Springs, StormKing, Chelsea Yacht Club, etc. All weather dependent and draft sensitive for larger boats. Moving flotilla north to Newburgh or Chelsea, Beacon Bridge and south unless conditions prevent.

Monday, Return and disperse

Ebb current from NB Bridge and general area north of West Point begins 6:00 am and can take a boat all the way south to NYC.
